Abstract

This paper presents a novel approach for the construction of Multiple Shortest Path Trees (MSPT) using multiple description (MD) video coding to satisfy the destination requirements (i.e., each destination has a preference number, which depends on its capacity, of video layers). Specifically, the independent-descriptions property of multiple description (MD) video coding along with multiple trees are exploited to increase user satisfaction. This approach is suitable for heterogeneous wireless ad hoc networks. Simulation results demonstrate that our proposed scheme (MSPT-MDC) outperforms MSPT-LC (multiple trees with layered coding) in terms of user satisfaction. In addition, simulation results show that user satisfaction, of the proposed scheme, is insensitive to the change of the number of destinations.
