Abstract

This paper deals with in a new approach for a single-phase matrix converter (SPMC) operating as frequency changer by using safe commutation switching strategy. Models with safe commutation given in the literature operate accurately provided that the required output frequency is multiples of the input frequency. In this study, a new dead time algorithm has been developed to provide safe commutation at all output frequency values. Operating states as frequency changer of a single-phase matrix converter are analyzed and the output voltage is obtained via Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) technique. Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) are used in the power circuit as switching devices for the construction of a single-phase matrix converter. Simulation of the proposed switching algorithm is performed using Matlab/Simulink for a single-phase matrix converter.
