Abstract

A leakproof automated apparatus for reproducible determination of dynamic interfacial properties of monolayers is described. The novel features include a single-loop bellow-type nonporous teflon barrier, automated cyclic compression and expansion of surface films at a wide range of compression rates and area reduction ratios, and an arrangement to check the nature of contact angle that the interface makes with a Wilhelmy plate. Experiments confirmed that leakage of insoluble surfactants, which is an important problem in conventional equipment, was completely prevented during extension and cycling of the surface area.
