Abstract

A sensillum not previously recognized as unique on the flagellum of Blattella germanica (L.) is an inconspicuous, solitary, circular structure, about 3 mμ. in diameter, without seta. It occurs in both sexes of all instars, including adults. In the latter, 3 sensilla, symmetrically distributed, occur on the distal periphery of each meristal annulus and doublet. Longitudinally, the sensilla describe 3 traceable lines, which may extend from base to apex. These sensilla, here called marginal because of their location, were found typically distributed on the flagella of all 44 species of Blattaria examined.
