Abstract

This paper proposes a new analytical method based on a small amount of measured flux linkage for a spherical reluctance motor (SPRM). This method is mainly divided into two steps, namely, measurement and calculation. In the measurement step, a measurement device is adopted to measure the flux linkage at four special positions. In the calculation step, the flux linkage-rotor angle curve is divided into three different stages, and the analytical expressions of the three different stages are established based on the measured results. This method only needs a few coefficients without curve fitting and parameter assumptions. The simulation and experimental results show that the proposed analytical method has higher accuracy and efficiency than finite element analysis (FEA) and the existing methods on flux linkage and torque calculation. Moreover, the discussion shows that this method has a good versatility for SPRM with different structure parameters.
