Abstract

ABSTRACTArtificial ground accelerograms are usually generated to match a target response spectrum for the purpose of nonlinear dynamic analyses of structures. A simple spectral matching algorithm is proposed in this paper for engineering application. This approach directly adjusts the response deformation oneperiod at a time in order to find the modified ground accelerogram. Such a direct single-period spectral matching scheme ensures numerical stability, as compared with a multi-period spectral matching process, and has numerical efficiency, as compared with a traditional single-period spectral matching process, in generating artificial ground accelerograms. Several examples are presented to demonstrate the efficiency of this new method.
