Abstract

In the process of solid modeling, non-manifold polygon surfaces may be met frequently. However, most graphics algorithms applied on polygon surfaces require that polygon surfaces must be manifold. Generally, non-manifold surfaces can be transferred into manifold surfaces with similar geometric appearance. The transfer operations include modifying non-manifold surface edges and non-manifold surface vertices. However, new nonmanifold may be produced when being transferred from nonmanifold surface in mesh modeling. To avoid of generating nonmanifold, we propose a new method of non-manifold transferring algorithm. Compared with existed non-manifold surface algorithm, this new repairing algorithm would not produce new non-manifold surfaces after transferring and can be operated and used directly and conveniently.
