Abstract

The transportation problem and its extension, the solid transportation problem, are a special class of linear programming problems and an important part of Operations Research. This paper describes a solid transportation model, where the total supply of goods is insufficient to fulfill the total demand, in which case, the supplier imports the remaining quantity of goods from another source. An expression is derived to determine the import plan. The paper deals with the impreciseness and uncertainty in the parameters of the model by representing them as trapezoidal neutrosophic numbers. Furthermore, an algorithm is presented to solve the model and is illustrated with the help of an example. A formula is also suggested to check the degree of sufficiency of the solution. The paper concludes with a brief discussion about some related research directions.
