Abstract

Neutron-diffraction studies on liquid chloroform at 20°C were carried out at neutron wavelengths 0·5 Å and 0·7 Å. For the latter wavelength samples of 5 and 7 mm diameter were measured. The data were corrected for background, absorption, multiple scattering and inelastic effects and then were normalized to absolute differential cross section by comparison with vanadium standard. A separation of the coherent distinct differential cross section into intramolecular and intermolecular contributions was achieved. From the intramolecular coherent cross section the structure of the molecule in the liquid was determined.
