Abstract

Abstract Extracts of mycelium of Aspergillus fumigatus, when injected intravenously into mice and sheep, caused renal cortical necrosis, with or without peri-renal oedema, and lesions of the alimentary tract in sheep. These lesions were very similar to those described for the New Zealand mucosal disease-like syndrome affecting cattle. When extracts and cultures of the fungus were dosed per os to sheep and a calf there was no evidence of kidney damage as shown by blood analysis.
