Abstract
A negative resistance tunnel diode oscillator, the linear part of which consists of two mutually coupled parallel resonant circuits, is investigated for the case where the coupling between the circuits is varied in time. Two critical values of coupling were-found for which the oscillator will switch from one mode to another. Numerical solution and experimental verification confirm the analytical results. One possible application of the oscillator is the use as a proximity switch since the critical coupling corresponds to a critical distance between the two resonant circuits.
