Abstract

toral politics, political appointments, judicial politics, lobbying, attempts to influence the popular media, and the like. Black politics should not be limited to any electoral cycle, presidential politics, congressional politics, state house or city-hall politics. All those arenas are important for black people, but if they are the only arenas we are active in, we are doomed. Black politics should not be inextricably linked to any political party Democrat, Republican, Green, Socialist Workers' Party or any other group. Even when we support the victorious party, and even in those rare and fleeting instances when the victorious party we've supported implements some policies less lethal to us than others, we are always expendable to them. We cannot count on any political formation in the United States to exhibit the same degree of loyalty to African peoples as we have demonstrated to them.
