Abstract

Over the last decade the organizational phenomena of community-based AIDS service organizations has proliferated on the nonprofit scene. To impact national decisions and serve various common needs, these groups have initiated several national organizations. In 1990, the National AIDS Network closed after providing national leadership for local groups. This paper asks organizational questions of selected executive directors on the local and national level as to their need and desire for a national organization. It also asks questions regarding NAN's closing and impact on a new national effort. Finally, organizational models are proposed that ld“t” the advantages and disadvantages offered by survey participants. Suggestions for future research and recommendations for the AIDS community are included.
