Abstract

The tri-level symptom model (Naragon-Gainey, 2016) characterizes overlapping (General Distress) and distinct (Anhedonia; Fears) dimensional features of depression and anxiety disorders. Trait fear is known to impact threat neurocircuitry during fear extinction (Sehlmeyer et al., 2011), and positive affect has been shown to enhance fear extinction learning (Zbozinek & Craske, 2007). Therefore, Fears and Anhedonia may be uniquely associated with fear extinction and exhibit distinct patterns of brain activation.
