Abstract
The U.S. Defense Meteorological Satellite Program's vehicles with infrared and visual sensors, and Australia's light aircraft fitted with an airborne radiation thermometer and ships from the Australian and New Zealand navies have been combined in a multisystem technique for the detection and measurement of mesoscale warm core eddies off the east coast of Australia. A method for satellite detection of these eddies has been established, the oceanographic features have been delineated, and the acoustic characteristics have been measured directly using the new lightweight array technology.
