A multidisciplinary project for undergraduate summer research in computer systems

Abstract

The need and benefit for a multidisciplinary undergraduate research project are obvious. In computer systems, students are required to gain knowledge in computer software and hardware which spans across several disciplines including Electrical Engineering (EE), Computer Science (CS), and Information Technology (IT). It has been a challenge for undergraduate students to conduct a complete research project over a short period of time in summer. This paper reports an exemplar multidisciplinary undergraduate summer research project that has been successfully implemented and may be adopted elsewhere.
