Abstract

A novel X-band frequency synthesizer for array radar system is presented in this paper. This frequency synthesizer is based on a Phase Locked Loop (PLL) with mixer structure. The synthesizer consists of multiple Direct Digital Synthesizers (DDSs), Voltage Controlled Oscillators (VCOs) and PLLs. The PLL is used as the system reference clock to the DDS and local reference signal to the mixer. DDSs generate two reference signals: one is for the Phase Frequency Detector (PFD) and the other provides the reference signal to the PLL. According to this structure, the frequency synthesizer with excellent performance for array radar system is developed. The experimental results indicate that the output of frequency synthesizer is low phase noise (<105 dBc/Hz@10KHz), low spurious (<−55 dBc) and phase-coherent for multi-channel.
