Abstract

In this paper, a truly explicit and truly self-starting time-marching procedure is proposed for structural dynamics and wave propagation analyses. The novel technique can be subdivided into three different levels, providing distinct time-marching formulations that can be applied separately or considering a mixed adaptive approach. In this context, at levels 1 or 2, the new technique provides simpler and more accurate/stable formulations than their equivalent counterparts in standard time-marching techniques. At level 3, the novel approach enables a mixed self-adjustable space/time co-joint solution procedure, providing a highly effective time integration technique for wave propagation analyses. Numerical results are presented along the manuscript, illustrating the excellent performance of the proposed multi-level time-marching technique.
