Abstract

For simultaneous recording of dynamic strains with wire-resistance strain gauges at moderate frequency response the string galvanometer, without amplification, has the advantage of extreme simplicity, robustness and portability. A fourteen-string galvanometer, with permanent magnet, natural frequency 70 c/s, full-scale deflexion on ±40 μA., a string resistance of 12 Ω and critical damping with an external circuit resistance of 200 Ω has been constructed and used under severe field conditions and is described.
