Abstract

57Fe Mössbauer spectra of the orthorhombic weberite Na 2MgFeF 7 recorded at 4.2 K in applied fields of up to 10 T reveal an antiferromagnetic exchange between the Fe 3+ ions with a Curie-Weiss Θ of about -2.1 K. Mössbauer spectra below 4.2 K show an onset of slow spin relaxation. The data are consistent with a paramagnetic state in which the easy anisotropy axis of the Fe 3+ ions is the crystallographic a axis.
