Abstract

Several compositions of the Nd/sub x/Fe/sub 100-x-y/B/sub y/ system have been prepared in amorphous ribbon form by a melt spinning method. The Nd and B contents x and y increased from 7.3 and 3.6 to 11 and 6, respectively. The alloys were annealed under optimized conditions to obtain a composite material consisting of the hard magnetic Nd/sub 2/Fe/sub 14/B and soft magnetic /spl alpha/-Fe phases. Phase analysis was performed using Mossbauer spectroscopy as the primary technique. The hyperfine magnetic fields and site populations of the component phases were determined and discussed. All spring magnet compositions were checked by hysteresis loop measurements.
