Abstract

Through the forces of desire and memory, Marcel Proust sought to establish the truth of being in Remembrance of Things Past. Translating the experience of the arts, in the models of music and painting, he sought to analyze and understand the nature of the artistically creative and creating subject. The two were ultimately to come together in the discovery of a vocation, that of a writer. The writer would be the quintessential artist in the book of the self; the book, both general and particular, would join private obsession with art and the laws of the mind.
