Abstract

The conventional finite element modeling of multi-conductor winding loss in electrical machines can be very time-consuming. This paper proposes a domain decomposition type of finite element model using the mortar element method to couple the solution domain inside the slot (linear domain) with the solution domain outside the slot (nonlinear domain). A 37kW permanent magnet-assisted synchronous reluctance motor (PM-assisted SynRM) is analyzed by using the proposed model method. The simulation results are compared with those obtained by the traditional FE model. It is shown that the proposed model can significantly improve the calculation efficiency while maintaining the calculation accuracy.
