Abstract

SummaryPollen sizes of five pecan cultivars (Carya illinoensis (Wang) K. Koch) and a morphological description of the pecan pollen grain using SEM are presented. The average size of the pecan pollen grain is 43 μm (medium sized) the pollen grains are isopolar, symmetric, apertures are polar, always three and grain shape is prolate spheroidal. The minor differences in the sizes of the pollen grains and in aperture diameter of the five cultivars specific were not sufficiently cultivar specific to be used for identifying cultivars, unlike those of apples, sweet cherries and peaches.
