Abstract
First described by Dotter et al. [1] in 1 974, the use of lowdose streptokinase has gained increased acceptance in the treatment of acute thrombosis. Recent articles by Mori et al. [2] and Becker et al. [3] have further extended the use of low-dose streptokinase by reporting success in the treatment of both thrombotic and embolic occlusions of various durations. However, complications involving the use of low-dose fibrinolytic therapy do occur. Pericatheter thrombosis occurs despite the use of concomitant heparin therapy [4]. We describe a new technique for the local infusion of streptokinase that has resulted in a decreased incidence of pencatheter thrombosis in the treatment of thrombotic or embolic disease involving the lower extremities.
