Abstract

The paper begins with a review of the currently available on-site water-tightness tests for masonry walls. The development of a modified on-site water chamber tester is reported. Results derived from experiments using this new tester are discussed. The results show that the leakage rate is not significantly affected by the flow rates but is significantly affected by the pressure difference of the applied water. Careful selection of a differential pressure seems to be more crucial than the water intensity rate for modelling realistic extreme wind driven rain situation in field-testing.
