Abstract

A Lowry procedure modified by the use of chloramine-T has been further modified to assay the proteinase activity in samples containing purine bases and/or sulfhydryl (SH) compounds. Although the sensitivity is decreased, this modification permits accurate assay of proteinase activity in crude preparations which may contain purine bases and/or other enzymes, which liberate these bases in the course of incubation. This method may also be useful for assay of the proteinase activity in samples which contain several phenols. On the other hand, as several other agents such as Tris or sucrose disturb this method, great care must be taken about its application to proteinase samples containing these agents.
