Abstract

A modification of Vertical Bell-Labs Layered Space Time (V-BLAST) is presented in this paper, which adopts distinct transmit data rate on different data stream on the basis of the theoretical derivation of the optimal bit error rate (BER) performance for open-loop V-BLAST. Simulation results show that this scheme may provide a significant reduction in BER averaged over all detection stages compared with the conventional V-BLAST system. With MMSE successive cancellation (SC) detection employed, this modified V-BLAST scheme has been found to achieve 4 dB performance improvement and shown to outperform conventional V-BLAST employing complex ML detection with low detection complexity at the receiver
