Abstract

Abstract A model-driven approach is introduced which can support enterprise-wide integration, by classifying and structuring different types of design and build decisions associated with the life cycle of integrated manufacturing enterprises (IME). The paper describes how this approach can be implemented through adopting the formalism of currently available reference architectures within workbenches which support each aspect of the IME life cycle. The paper also reviews the terminology underlying the approach. Finally, outstanding areas of research are identified which could lead to a more complete coverage of the IME life cycle
