Abstract

SUMMARY Medical educators around the world are frequently challenged to transfer educational strategies from the context of international centers of medical education to the very different environment of their native medical institutions. This paper describes a four-session workshop in curriculum development for international fellows designed and implemented at the Department of Medical Education of the University of Illinois at Chicago. Workshop topics include defining the curriculum and curriculum blueprinting, basic principles of curriculum and instruction, educational strategies, and curriculum evaluation. The readings, small-group activities and individual application exercises described facilitate active engagement with the material and promote the transfer and application of the subject-matter to the learner's own milieu.
