Abstract

The performance of a computer often critically depends on the performance of the disk subsystem used. To evaluate the disk and disk controller throughput and response time, a detailed analytical model has been constructed. The model describes a disk controller with several hard and/or floppy disks connected to it. The model is particularly useful to estimate the queueing on the disk controller in various configurations. An extension to a cached system is also discussed.
