Abstract

Besides the great advances on automotive technology the mathematical description of driver behaviour still a present need not satisfied by the existing work. This paper presents a contribution to partially solve this problem. A model of the real driver steering behaviour, for vehicles submitted to transversal solicitations, is presented. This model establishes a relation between the driver context and his driving actions on the steering wheel, having in mind his psychological and physiological characteristics. The model parameters are identified based on experimental data measured in real driving conditions with several types of drivers. Based on this model several simulation results allow us to predict the driver/vehicle system response to external disturbances and stability analysis.
