Abstract

Using a non-relativistic constituent quark model of the nucleon which incorporates pion exchange between quarks we are able to calculate a modified OPE NN potential which includes the effects of quark exchange between nucleons. Within the framework of this model we explain the OPE-δ procedure (or the “poor man's absorption model”). This model yields a qualitative description of the double-spin-flip helicity amplitude ( φ 2) for elastic nucleon-nucleon scattering.
