Abstract

This article presents a model of foster care advocacy that practitioners can use in their practice. It outlines three domains to intervene in assisting youth in care: preparing for advocacy (assessing foster parent potential), advocacy with service providers (courts, social services, schools, health and mental health systems, interdisciplinary teams), and advocacy with macro systems (agencies, law, community). Specific strategies of advocacy, as well as a discussion of the model's application to practice, conclude the article.
