Abstract

Inspired by the conclusion of Ko & Parker that «star formation (SF) controls dynamo activity and hence the large-scale magnetic fields of disc galaxies», we construct a minimum model for the bilateral interaction of dynamo action and star formation activity in galactic discs, and present some preliminary results. The principal processes included are SF by self-gravitational instability of the gaseous disc and dynamo activation by SF, the latter corresponding to a realization of Ko & Parker's picture. We emphasize the bilateral nature because the magnetic field affects the self-gravitational instability
