Abstract

A model for multi-quark systems is developed taking into account, in a phenomenological way, the effect of gluonic interactions. This model, which so far does not contain spin or isospin, has for two of its limits: (a) at short distances it becomes the λ · λ potential model and (b) at large distances it goes over into the strong coupling limit of QCD. As a particular example, meson-meson scattering is treated as a q 2 q −2 system of two q q clusters and an explicit q 2 q −2 state. Depending a single phenomenological parameter — related to the overlap of the gluonic configurations in different q 2 q −2 states — the resulting meson-meson phase shifts can become large.
