Abstract
SUMMARY A two-part binomial-Poisson model, related to the bivariate Poisson distribution, is proposed to describe the changes in the counts of bird territories in successive years. The binomial part of the model introduces a parameter corresponding to the proportion of occupied territories reoccupied in the subsequent year. The Poisson part of the model represents the number of previously unoccupied territories which are occupied in the subsequent year. Parameter estimates are obtained and are used to provide approximate confidence intervals for the parameter of interyear change. 1. lntroduction
