Abstract

A bottom-scattering model based on sediment small scatterers, single scattering approximation is presented, which is combined with a normal-mode-based reverberation model. The combined model (for total reverberation) is compared with measurements of shallow-water reverberation from the 2001 Asian Sea International Acoustic Experiment (ASIAEX) in the East China Sea. Reverberation intensities as a function of time and frequency are compared with theoretical predictions with reasonable agreement. The effects of the rough sea surface on the reverberation are also discussed.
