Abstract
Under the Alliance for Progress in December 1962 a program was begun by the Organization of Central American States (ODECA) to deliver basic medical care and preventive medicine services to more than 2 million people in Central America and Panama. Mobile units have been used to travel to the communities to provide services and to organize community self-help programs for the improvement of local health facilities and environmental sanitation. A recent interest in family planning has led to the establishment of clinics in 33 communities.
