Abstract

Knowledge is increasingly recognized as an important resource by all types of organizations, whether private or public. There is a growing need for organizations to have a framework for managing knowledge to allow them to store, share, create and apply their unmatched knowledge resources so as to remain at the front position and survive. The great popularity and rapid diffusion of mobile technologies worldwide along with increasing mobility of staff necessitate the provision of anytime, anywhere access to knowledge. This has led to the creation of an emerging field entitled mobile knowledge management (MKM). The paper provides an analysis of mobile knowledge management needs and demands for the Mauritian Police force and proposes an MKM framework which can be used as a foundation for management of knowledge at different governmental instances in Mauritius and globally. A system prototype has been implemented based on the proposed MKM framework and evaluated.
