Abstract

A mixed finite-element method is presented for the computer modeling of three-dimensional time-dependent (transient) electromagnetic fields in electrically and/or magnetically strong inhomogeneous time-invariant media. In the spatial domain of computation, both edge and Cartesian elements are used for the electric field strength as well as the magnetic field strength and, for both expansions, the corresponding program decides locally what type of element is to be used for obtaining the best results as regards both computational efficiency and final accuracy. Both implicit and explicit methods can be used for carrying out the integration along the time axis.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
