Abstract

In this letter, a stripline fed Vivaldi antenna with more than 8.6:1 bandwidth is presented. The application of conventional Vivaldi antenna was limited by large dimension in different fields. By this means, a novel semi-elliptical slot edge with U-shaped pools structure is employed to improve the radiation performance of the Vivaldi antenna in the lower frequency bands. The size of the proposed antenna with the transition structure is reduced to 54×60×3.58mm3 and the antenna has a peak gain of 13dBi over the impedance matching bandwidth ranging from 2.2GHz to 19GHz (VSWR<2), which is an improvement to the previously reported Vivaldi antennas.
