Abstract

A miniature turbine flowmeter developed for accurate measurement of low flow rates in liquids up to a maximum pressure of 35 MPa is described. The flowmeter is characterised by a turbine rotor driven tangentially by a jet stream from a nozzle. High sensitivity at low flow rates is achieved by maximising momentum transfer and minimising bearing friction. The flowmeter is characterised by a linear response in the region 0.3-1.2 cm3 s-1. The flowmeter can be used successfully for accurate measurement of low flow rates in a high-pressure stream of anhydrous liquid ammonia.
