Abstract

This note presents the design of a simple glow discharge array detector based on a hybrid series/parallel interconnection of nine commercially available glow lamps and to describe a series of experiments performed with it. The study reported was performed at 70 GHz. It is shown that low-cost glow discharge detectors can be combined with low-cost integrated circuit components to synthesise a millimetre wave array detector possessing an enhanced signal-to-noise ratio.
