Abstract

Childhood sexual abuse (CSA) is a common experience for women and research from the UK and USA indicates a prevalence of 20%.1,2 Inevitably, some of these women will access maternity services. This article considers whether midwives are aware of this vulnerable group of women and explores the role of the midwife in supporting women who have experienced CSA through the perinatal period.
