Abstract

A compact microstrip two-layer dual-passband filter using aperture-coupled stepped-impedance resonators with wide rejection bandwidth by defected ground structure (DGS) is proposed. To validate the proposed design, a four-order of the dual-band bandpass filter was designed, fabricated, and measured to operate at WLAN 2.4 and 5.2 GHz. DGSs are placed under feed lines for extra stopband rejection mode to spurious frequencies of the filter with attenuation losses over than -15 dB, without affecting the operation bands and insertion losses of the originally designed filter. The proposed filter is not only compact in size due to two-layer configuration , but also has a wider upper stopband resulting from the DGSs effect. The experimental results of the fabricated filter agree very well with simulation expectations.
