Abstract

Starting from a nucleon-nucleon potential containing soft-core central, spin-orbit and tensor forces a resonating group calculation for 4He scattering states was performed. All possible couplings of p− 3H and n− 3He channels were considered but the d-d channels were neglected. Cross sections and polarization values resulting from this calculation were compared with experimental data for both elastic p− 3H and n− 3He scattering and the 3H(p, n) 3He reaction. Generally the agreement between theory and experiment is good; some discrepancies resulting from the neglect of d-d channels are discussed.
