Abstract
Development of a respiratory care data collection and monitoring system is based upon the philosophy that it is imperative to have accurate quantitative patient data at the bedside in order to insv e quality patient care. Presently, computer systems can adequately provide the means to collection and dissemination of information. The basic consideration becomes one of the quality of the sensor information to be utilized. Primary to respiratory care are the measurements of gas composition, flows, pressures and temperature. New technology is rapidly putting these measurements within reach of the clinicians in the critical care facilities and it is now their responsibility to provide adequate input into the processing of the basic measurements.
