Abstract

A versatile time-resolved multi-channel averager has been built using a microprocessor architecture to provide intelligent data acquisition capability. The averager described provides 1 mu s time resolution, multiple channel widths, automatic background subtraction, and multiple operating modes. A high speed cassette tape system is provided for transporting acquired data to a minicomputer for further analysis, and an automatically scaled CRT display is provided for monitoring data acquisition in real time. Illustrative examples of the use of the instrument for studying pulsed afterglow plasmas are discussed.
