Abstract

A semiautomated microplate system for the performance of ABO and Rh testing is described. The system incorporates a microplate reader and is controlled by a microprocessor. A light pen is used for positive sample identification. Results from successful field trials of the instrument are also presented. This semiautomated system offers a reliable alternative to standard manual methods for the performance of ABO and Rh grouping tests, and has been adapted to perform other tests that are useful in blood processing.
